First you want to distribute (multiply out the brackets). This gives you:

7-7y=-3y+6 (because a negative integer multiplied by a negative integer is a positive)

Now, lets group like terms:

7-7y+3y=-3y+6+3y which becomes 7-4y=6

and 7-4y-7=6-7 which becomes -4y=-1

Since both sides of the equation have one term, and both terms are negative, we can remove the negatives and work with positives. This gives us 4y=1. Lastly, lets isolate y by dividing giving us

y=1/4

Lastly, you’ll want to substitute 1/4 into the original equation for all the y’s and double check it’s right.

7(1-y)=-3(y-2)

Step 1: Multiply by distribution.

7-7y= -3y-6

Step 2: Move constants to one side and variables to the opposite side.

7-7y=-3y-6

(7-7)-7y+3y=(-3y+3y)-6-7

-7y+3y=-6-7

Step 3: Simplify

-7y+3y=-6-7

-4y=1

Step 4: Solve for y

-4y/-4 =1/-4

Answer: y= 1/-4 or -0.25

7-7y=-3y + 6

7=4y + 6

1=4y

y= 1/4
