what suffix can help you identify an enzyme?

enzymes assits in the break down or building of organic compounds. what name is used to describe the compounds which the enzymes assist? (my guess, substrate??)

lol -ase is the suffix any word tat ends in -ase is usually an enzyme like say dna polymerase is an enzyme or salivary amylase is another
