3-6x + 8x =9?
thanks

3 + 8x – 6x = 9
In this case you would be taking away 6 unknown things from 8 unknown things, which again leaves you with 2 unknown things. After combining the unknowns the equation looks like this
3 + 2X = 9
Now you combine your numbers, 3 and 9 (called constants because 3 is always 3 and 9 is always 9). To do that, you have to move 3 from one side of the equation to the other. Remember, what ever you do to one side of the equal sign, you MUST do it to the other. If you don’t, you’ve ruined the equality of the expression. For example: 2 = 2. You agree with me that 2 = 2, right? Good. Now if I add 4 to the left side of the equation (2+4) and leave the right side untouched, I now have and expression that reads: 6 = 2. This is obviously false (hopefully you agree with this too. If you don’t, we’re in big trouble!). But, If I add 4 to both sides, then I would have 6 = 6 and the universe is still okay π
Okay, back to your problem. We need to combine the constants. How do you get rid of 3? Kind of answered my own question, right? Get rid of = subtract. So we need to subtract 3 from the left side and subtract 3 from the right side. If we write that down the equation looks like this:
3 – 3 + 2x = 9 – 3
Again, combine your like terms. Here, our only like terms are the constants. 3-3=0 and 9-3=6. Now the equation looks like this:
2x = 6
Okay, we’re at the home stretch. At this point, you could probably solve it in your head. You just think, “hmmm . . . what do I multiply 2 by to get 6? Ah, yes, 3!” So x = 3. But, we need to show our steps and do it mathmatically so when the tougher problems arise, we can still solve them. If you read the equation in English, you could say it like this:
two somethings equals six.
To solve the problem, we need to find out what just one of those somethings equals. We know that to turn any number into a 1, you must divide it by itself. For example:
4 / 4 = 1
1234 / 1234 = 1
1.29 / 1.29 = 1
x / x = 1
Anything / Anything = 1
WIth this we know we can then divide the term 2x by 2 and make the coefficient (number in front of a variable) 1. Don’t forget, what you do to one side you MUST do to the other. This means we divide 6 by 2, as well. This would look like . . .
2x / 2 = 6 / 2
1x = 3
A coefficient of 1 is redundant or unnecessary. So we simply write the equation like this
x = 3.
Hmm . . . that looks like the answer.
Not knowing your knowledge base, I tried to break it down as basic as possible. Hope this helped! Good luck.
u carry the 3 over the equal sign so
-6x + 8x = 9-3
then 2x = 6 and u divide both sides by 2
so x = 3
and do the check
3-6(3)+8(3)=9
3-18+24=9
-15+24=9
9=9
-6x+8x=6. Then combine the -6x and 8x to get 2x. ( -6+8=2) that makes the equation read, 2x=6. Then divide by 2 on each side of the = sign. to make it X=3. that is the answer.
First you would combine the x’s.
so you would subtract 6x form the 8x.
3+2x=9
Now get the 3 to the other side by subtrating it(since its a positive number you do the opposite which would be subtraction)
2x=6
Now get the 2 on the other side as well do the opposite function that it is holding (its multiplyed so you would divide)
so
x=3
now check your work
3-6(3)+8(3)=9
3-18+24=9
9=9
Start by subtracting 3 from both sides to make
-6x + 8x = 6
Add -6x to 8x to get 2x
2x = 6
Now just divide both sides by two
x = 3
3+2x=9
-3 -3
2x=6
x=3
Simplify ur x terms: -6x+8x=2x
3+2x=9
-3 -3 Subtract 3
2x=9: divide by 2
x= 4.5 or 9/2
