pecan – pi-kahn, -kan or pee-kan

caramel – kar-uh-muhl, -mel, or kahr-muhl

For both words, either pronunciation is accepted. As far as how you pronounce it, that will depend on the region you are from. Either way, you are right.

I have always pronounced it “pecan” not “pecon” and I pronounce it “carmal” not caramel! I think it really depends on where you’re from and what type of accent a person has. I’m from the North East, and when I lived in the South for two years, they pronounced it “pecon” and “caramel”. Hope this helps to answer your question! Take care!

Pecan is supposed to be pronounced as “pekahn”

Caramel can be pronounced both Car-mahl or Car’a’mell and neither is incorrect. The beauty of choices!

Depends on where you are from. Both are correct for each. For the record, where I grew up it is “pee-cans” and “care-a-mel”.

That Guy
the proper spelling should be PEE-cans, hence the origin of one of its lesser-known nicknames, “toilet nut”

the 2nd “a” in caramel is silent, but only if you really need to impress some snobby rich guy
