How does CLASS curriculum compare to ABEKA ?

Class seems so much cheaper and is Christian too . Also it provides online help. Which one is better ?

I didn’t read all the other answers…so I may repeat them =D

I used CLASS from K-12. From what I know about A Beka, the main difference is that CLASS picks curriculum from a variety of publishers (MCP, Saxon, several others, even A Beka). By doing this, they can pick the best (or what they think is the best) course material for each subject from a variety of publishers. Sometimes they will even offer you the choice of which publisher you’d like to take a particular course from.

Given the choice, I’d go with CLASS again.

Personal Experience: I enjoyed the A Beka science textbooks that class assigned, but when I took a math A Beka elective (Trigonometry)…let’s just say, I wished I HADN’T. Saxon (also a CLASS option) was MUCH easier to learn from. The format was WAY better.

I’ve used CLASS and one thing I would like to point out is they use other curriculum providers in addition to their own press (Christian Liberty Press)

They offer Abeka, as well as Saxon and others.

At the time I used it, Saxon was not a choice for my daughter’s grade level and she had to use Modern Curriculum Press and she hated it.

If they had the choices available then as they do now, I would’ve stuck with it.

Their history is mainly their own press, and it can be a bit dry, but you can easily enhance it with more interesing books.

or maybe they’ve changed that as well.

The thing I liked about it was they did try to pull the best sources in to give families a quality education and choices.

CLASS is cheaper. And gives you the opportunity to substitute if you want to. IOW, you don’t have to use their complete curriculum. You can pick and choose. If you want to you can just get some of their items. Then get some subjects from somewhere else.

I used the complete CLASS curriculum for K for my first child, then started substituting here and there the next year. Now I pick and choose and use the discount homeschool places to order from for all my stuff and use the library too.

CLASS is great, I think ABEKA is ok, but sometimes I’m underwhelmed by the depth of the material. I also don’t like the idea of my students watching school on DVD, reading is important (it is school, after all).

CLASS has a great support network, prompt response to issues, you have choices of curriculum for english and math. We highly recommend it

ABEKA is Christian. The ABEKA program can send you VHS and DVD’s that have the classes on tape and its almost like you are in the class room with them. It is a little pricey though, and I don’t know anything about Class.

I used CLASS with my son from grade 3 through 6. I was very happy with it as a first time homeschooler. He went to a DOD school for 7th and 8th, a Church school for 9th. Then I went back to homeschooling him. We did CLASS for 10th grade, but I was not happy with their choice of curriculum and so I did it all on my own for 11th grade. He graduated after that–a year early.

I would go with abeka. I do believe it is generally more expensive but it has better curriculum.
