Homeschool Question?

ok IM in 8th grade. And I cant stand my school at this point. the work is to easy and I cant stand the kids anymore. but this is the only school i could go to at this time.

So i was wondering… If I could come home and be homeschooled. My mom does have homeschool experience because I origanlly was homeschooled up to 2nd grade. But next year I wanna go to High School. So if IM homeschooled can i still go into 9th grade next year?

And if i could how will they know what classes to put me in when i start High School?

thanks

It depends on your state laws, and local district as to how they place you when you go to public school after being homeschooled. Most send you into the age appropriate grade unless there are unusual circumstances.

Homeschooling doesn’t have to be a permanent thing, so you can definitely do it for one year. Some even do it just a few weeks.

I recommend you read “The Teenage Liberation Handbook” by Grace Llewelyn.

Good luck 😀

Easy Answer: Yeah, that will work. You let the High School know you’re coming and they treat you like everyone else.

Real Life Answer: Sometimes it won’t work that easily. Principals and school systems are given a lot of latitude in deciding where to place transferring homeschooled students. They might decide your homeschooling didn’t comply with your state guidelines closely enough, and require your to test or repeat certain subjects.

The best way to avoid that problem is to get yourself tested in all the subjects you study. There are independent testing companies for various grades, 8th grade is one, and some states allow for teacher evaluations to determine grade placement for homeschooled students. In NYS, there are Regents tests available to prove you have mastered a subject.

If you are at the top of your class in 8th grade now, then arrange for testing and you may be able to skip taking subjects you have already mastered. It won’t change how many credits you need to graduate from high school, but may allow you to take more challenging courses starting in your freshman year.

Find an online charter school and yes you will be able to go into the 9 the grade the following year if you choose …they will put you in regular HS classes after you talk to an academic adviser

My son graduated an online charter school with a 3.5 and now attends the University Of Dayton with scholarships. Online charter school are accredited and they give you the same diploma that any public or private school would. They will help you with making sure all your state required tests are done (proficiencies etc )

Depending on where you live they have some all over. This is the one we currently are using, and it is great !

you still will go into 9th grade next year. homeschooling counts just like regular school. when you start high school they’ll just let you pick the classes you want. i was homeschooled in 7th grade and did well when i went back to regular school the next year. it’s actually nice to get a break from regular school 4 a year.

As long as your mother keeps records, those grades transfer over. So the answer is, Yes. If you keep up your grades, you will go to 9th grade. With my son, when he went back to public school for 1 year, we met with the counselor and discussed his schedule for that school year. Best of luck
