Grade 6 Math?

My little cousin asked me for help on her math, it deals with measurement.

A large rectangular room is 12.34 m long. What increase in width will make the perimeter 5 m longer if the length stays the same?

A 2.5 meter increase. You have 4 sides: length twice and width twice. The increase in width can be found by doing 5/2=x, x=width increase. Because there are two sides representing width, a 2.5 meter increase for both of them, shown 2.5(2), equals 5.
