We also get a free Lego magazine once per month for my son.
Also, from Learning Resources I get a free publication about 3 times each year. In there is a card to send of for lots of free educational info that kind of dominoes into more as you send for one then, then another.
You can get all sorts of free educational materials through the mail from government offices: U.S. Mint, FDA, Forestry dept, Federal Reserve Bank, etc. Also state and local agencies give these out. I just rec’d a huge box from our state’s Dept. of Natural Resources – and 22 awesome, huge posters.
As for magazines, there are a lot of kids’ magazines. Our favorites are Kids Discover, Highlights, and Odyssey. All magazines have subscriptions. We get National Geographic (not the kids’ version – I can’t stand it) for $12 with the educator price.
The *best* place to get “free” magazines is to check them out at your library. Our librarian says those they have do not get enough circulation; he’d like to see more kids reading them.
If you do a ‘net search for something like “free teaching tools” or “free educator materials”, you’ll come up with a lot of hits.
Focus on the Family has several magazines for kids.
