When to consolidate my student loans?

Hi, im a current senior at a university. i got a letter in the mail that says i am “eligible to earn cash back and a payment reduction” on my student loans under the new provisions of the Higher Education Act”.

(up to 2,000 cash back, reduce monethly payments by 50 percent, .25% interest rate reduction for auto payments)

So should i wait til i graduate to consolidate or should i consolidate now and why?

Thanks

First, do you have more than one lender holding your student loans? If not, first check with your current lender to see what type of repayment terms they will offer before starting the consolidation process. If you do have multiple lenders, again check with them (or at least the ones that have given you good service) to see what they offer. If you don’t want to work with any of them then start checking out the multiple offers you will receive. Make sure you read the fine print…what shows up in bold big type is usually used to grab your attention. The devil is in the details. Then, after you graduate, work with your chosen lender on consolidating your loans.
