what does it mean when someone says I don’t need to monopolize conversations to get attention?

It means that you take over the conversation and dont let others get there talk time. It doesnt necessarily mean you are out for attention. maybe you dont realize you do it. But apparently the person that made the comment thinks you are. Just listen more and make sure the other person is done talking before you talk.

Someone who monopolizes conversation is someone who is always talking and never listening; someone who always controls the topics of discussion. Consider it a derogatory designation.

it means that you should listen to others as well as talk. that you shouldn´t drown out whatever someone else is trying to say just to attract attention, you shouldn´t dominate the conversation. that you can get attention in otehr ways…
