What do I do if I did not work, but need a tax return?

I am a college student at Baker,it is my first term, I just had to take out a student loan.:(

I just missed the deadline for many grants, and because I’m not 24 yet they must use my parents income.I don’t live with them, but they said it does not matter.

I turn 24 jan. 20 2008, and then I can go based on my income, and be able to recieve the assistance I really need.

Here is my problem they say I need a tax return, but they know I don’t work. What do I do,do I really need a tax return?

If I don’t, do I need to get anything else? How do I do this?HELP Please!

I don’t know where you live or even where Baker is…haha

But, you do NOT have to have a tax return to apply for financial aid or loans in the U.S.!

My first year in college I didn’t file taxes because I only made around $9,000.00 the year before. There is a specific option for people who did not legally have to file their taxes! They may ask you to fill out additional forms but you don’t HAVE to have a tax return…

Okay- to be considered independent you have to:

1. Show you are self supporting.

2. To be self supporting you have income.

3. If you have income you need to file a statement of your income with the government, a tax return.

4. Since you say you do not work -you need your parents tax info.

I would wonder who has been providing you with a place to live, clothing, and food, etc. You have not been living on air!!!!

How are you able to support yourself if you do not work? Make sure you are independent before you try to file as one. You do not need a tax return, there is a box to check I will not file this year.

You still need to file an income tax return. Go to irs.gov for more info.
