Scholarships for aspiring writers?

Do you know of any? Is there some sort of “Steven King scholarship?” I’ve been searching, but I haven’t found anything very usefull. All the colleges I’ve applied to are private schools, and even though private schools give more scholarships than public, I still don’t want to be in debt $50,000+ when I exit school and join the real world.

If you are GOOD WRITER and SMART then you can go for National Merit® Scholarship Program. To qualify you need to be one of the 50,000 out of approximately 1.4 million entrants each year in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test(READING, WRITING & MATH)

Then out of those 50000 only 34,000 will be elect to second round (even if you did not get elect, you might still receive Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.) 16,000 students will elect to third round, 15000 will elect to fourth round. 8200 will go to the final round in which all will receive FULL SCHOLARSHIP, you’ll also complete for 50 $2500 “SPENDING MONEY” (one per state).

Dependent on where you live, for example The New York Times offer College Scholarship Program. Each year selects 20 Times Scholars, students who have overcome exceptional hardship to achieve excellence in New York City high schools. Each student receives a four-year college scholarship, mentoring and summer employment.
