Oh Wow

What are some places where I can apply for college grants?

Im a sophmore right now, and once my dad moved out he didnt care about my sister or I anymore, so I have to find a new way to pey for college since my mom cant afford it.

Are there any online sites where I can apply for grants? I plan on attending FIT or Parsons in New York.

I very much understand your situation. My dad wasn’t around, so my single mom didn’t have enough money to cover college tuition for me and my brother.

Here are some good sites that offer grants and scholarships:

FedMoney.org Home

You also have the option to take out a student loan even though you have to pay them back. My entire 4 years were paid for with student loans, and I consolidated them once I graduated and have one low payment every month. If you are considering a student loan you should get a federal student loan.

Here’s what you need to do to get one:

1) Fill out the FAFSA. This will determine if you are eligible for financial aid. Go here:

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

2) Once you are eligible for aid, choose a government-based student loan. The best loan to get is a Federal Perkins Loan. These have low interest rates and the government will help you pay it back as long as you stay enrolled in school. You also don’t need a cosigner or good credit for it. For more info go here:

http://www.studentfinancedomain.com/student_loans/perkins_student_loans.aspx

3) The next best loan to get is a Subsidized Stafford Loan. This has many of the same benefits as a Perkins Loan. Learn more here:

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Universities that you are applying for will have grants available for you to apply to through the financial aid office. Grants, student loans and govt stafford loans are all available. dont worry about funding right now as a sophmore. Focus more on getting good grades to get into the school of your choice. If they accept you, they will find a way to help you pay for it through the f. aid office. good luck!

You still need to fill out the FAFSA at : www.fafsa.ed.gov,this will give you a report (SAR) regarding your family contribution and such. It will also tell you what grants you will be eligible for as well as information on financial aid, loans and grants.

Your college Financial Aid office will also give you information on where to apply and what needs to be done for you to qualify for grants. Talk to your financial aid advisor. You can also go to www.salliemae.com and there is a variety of loans that can be applied for that are government funded, as well as private loans that are available

Good Luck!!
