No credit and need a student loan. I have no cosigner and cannot find a co. that will approve me. Any ideas?

I have tried SallieMae and they are a joke! They wasted 3 weeks of my six week class and now I owe the school and cannot go back next term. I really need to get a student loan to stay in. I worked for a company and it closed so I have no income but my husband does. We filed bankruptcy 1 year ago, so our credit went down the tubes. Any help will be appreciated!

While I’m sorry that Sallie Mae wasted your time, you should always get your educational financing done before you start a term – preferably have it lined up before you register for classes. Otherwise, you end up in such a situation where your loan falls through after the point where you can’t drop.

Since you filed for bankruptcy a year ago, your chances of getting a student loan from a reputable company are very very low unless you can get a Stafford or PLUS loan (since those are guaranteed by the US Government). For those, you must fill out a FAFSA before you can apply for the loans – check out http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ for that.

Once the FAFSA is done, go back and try a couple of student loan lenders, and see who will give you the best deal on a Stafford Loan – look for companies that will lower the origination and disbursement fees.

I’m unsure whether you can use the student loan to pay for a term already completed – that’s between you and whatever company you go with. However, stick with a top-tier reputable company (Sallie Mae, NelNet, a bank or credit union that you know well, etc), or the Direct Loan program from the government. Pick Direct Loans last – they tend to rarely be willing to cut down on your fees.

Finally, talk to your school – unfortunately, since you are behind on payments, you’re going to have a harder time than normal, but their financial aid people may be able to help you arrange the loans you need. And whatever you do – read all the paperwork before you sign.

Students who are looking for a bad credit student loan should pick three schools they are most interested in, talk to the admissions office, and ask what is needed to apply in their school.A bad creditdepending on whether you are a homeowner or not. The rate of interest to be paid on unsecured bad credit student loans is higher than that on secured bad credit student loans. This is because the secured bad credit student loans are backed by your home as a security.

Go to your college’s financial aid office and apply for a federal student loan. You won’t need a co-signer.

do you need this loan for school? If yes, why didn’t you apply for grant money or financial aid? you must be qualified for it.
