Looking for a good source for advice/grants/funding for a town library?

I live in a small island community in the Caribbean off the coast of Panama. There is not a library of any kind and the community, while very anxious to prosper and progress, it is still not economically solvent. The Government of Panama has no funding for such frivolous things as libraries. We are lucky there are pretty good schools.

You can go to the MIDES Ministery of Social Development and talk to them. You can get a foundation started and the government gives you funding.

My recommendation would be to start a book collection from different people who live in the island maybe everybody donate a book or something.

The only thing that I have ever heard of that might or might not help you, is to see if there are any Angels that can help you. By Angels, I mean, there are people all over the world with too much money. These people help others by giving them money to start businesses, improve schools, build churches and yes, I have heard they do libraries also. I cannot tell you where to find them, but I know they are out there. Because of tax purposes they are required to give money to worthy people and causes. I hope you can find some. A library is one the worthiest causes I can think of happening. I love to read about everything.
