I would say between 250-350. Costs for clothing have gone way up. This is not even for name brand clothing.

If she really knows how to bargain shop, then she would be fine. If she needs new sneakers then you might want to add a bit more since those tend to cost a lot even though you know how to bargain. Even shopping at Old Navy or Charlotte Rousse (the lower end of the brands), you won’t be able to come out with very much under $100 though. You should see how she does with $100 and then ask her if she needs more clothes. Also, anything punk and tailored seems to be pretty expensive right now since they’re in style for teenagers. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t be buying the yearly school wardrobe all at one time since the seasons change and she’ll need sweaters, jackets, pants, and a coat for the winter.

It really depends on where you shop and if you can stretch a dollar. Places like kohls and tjmaxx would be great places to shop as well as target and walmart just be aware that with every season comes a few key items that might cost more such as shoes, coat, jeans, dresses, swimsuits, and ect. also don’t be afraid to use coupons at more pricey stores and check the paper each week for deals and don’t buy it all at once maybe say ok get a pair of jeans and 2 shirts and a pair of shoes this week and then the next time say ok buy more. and of course if the teenager is a girl be prepared to buy makeup and accesories as well! Good luck and have fun shopping.

$100 is not nearly enough, unfortunately unless you go to the goodwill or shop for really cheap prices on the internet. The purchase of necessities like shoes, any additional under garments, jackets/coats, and sweaters alone will usually eat up that $100 really quick if you go to major stores. You might can find some good deals and get two weeks worth of clothing from discount stores that have clearance racks. Try to buy really basic articles of clothing that can be used to mix and match, so that your child can make various outfits out of those articles of clothing. You can’t go wrong with basic neutral color tees and pants, blue jeans, screen t-shirts and things like that.

Not unless you go to goodwill…..I bought my sister(who is 12) a whole new wardrobe from there….all the stuff looks brand new and nobody would know the difference unless she told them….I bought her 12 pair of jeans….12 shirts (all different kinds)….and a Brand new pair of New Balance shoes. All for UNDER $100.00. But if she wants all brand new stuff from the mall then no. I have shopped at goodwill for a long time and its not because I ‘m poor….I just like to keep as much of my money as I can! Try that and see what happens!!

I think it depends. If they are growing and need a whole new wardrobe every year, decent sneakers will cost 40-60 alone. if we’re talking that you need to buy her a few outfits for back to school, but she still has other clothes she can wear too, 50-100 will easily cut it. there’s no reason to go to the name stores… There are some decent ones that are WONDERFUL for cheap, awesome clothing. My favorite is Rave, but it depends on what is available where you live

Most teenagers get so snobbishly brand and store conscious they would expect to pay $100 on a single shirt.

We’ve been through this. On a positive note, we taught the kid that he had to earn his own money to pay for it, and with such a powerful motivator, he got a full 4-yr college tuition scholarship and ended up with a $55,000 a year job even before he graduated. Now he can buy all the $100 shirts he wants.

Now I’m thinking of getting him to buy ME $100 shirts.

no way! Maybe 200.00-250.00 and that’s only if you are shopping at places like Wet Seal and Charlotte Russe. If you go to places like Hollister and Abercrombie then you will need to spend like 500-600 so I recommend going to the first places I mentioned. Have fun shopping 🙂

If it is spent wisely it might come close. Full price clothes it’ll get you a shirt and pants. I am a clearance rack shopper, as are many people I know, but it still won’t get you far.

Persuade your teenager to go retro. You can find lots of good stuff in the charity stores and church rummage sales.
