I was awarded a scholarship for one semester of school however tuition has increased…?

The check from the scholarship fund is for the old tuition amount. Would it be rude for me to contact the committee and inform them that I need more cash?

If you were awarded the scholarship with the understanding that it was to cover your tuition, then no, it would not be rude to indicate your tuition has increased. However, if it was a set amount that didn’t have anything to do with your old tuition amount – say the scholarship amount coincided with your tuition amount – then I would not say anything.

You should also talk with a financial aid officer at your school for further guidance. Good luck!

I admire the fact you applied for a scholarship – and received it. Congratulations! Many years ago, I was the recipient of a scholarship – for a full semester.

I just read the other two answers. In my opinion, I think they are totally wrong. You would be totally out-of-line and rude to ask for more money. You were given a scholarship. You were not given a full scholarship or a grant or a fellowship, were you?

Just to deviate from your Q and my answer – tiny bit: Did you write those wonderful ladies and gentlemen, who awarded you the scholarship a much-deserved, “Thank you” note?

What’s wrong with getting a part-time job on the weekend OR a couple evenings a week to help yourself? Did I? Absolutely!

Thank you for asking your question. I enjoyed taking the time to answer your question. You did a great job – not only for your information, but for every other person interested in reading my answer. Thanks to everyone for reading my answer.

I wish you well!

Not at all. The agreement is for one semester of school, and I assume, all parties would expect it to be honored. Keeping good track of your finances and holding people accountable to agreed-upon terms is a practical and valuable life skill. The scholarship was likely unaware of the tuition increase when they wrote the check…

It would be appropriate to inform them of the price increase and ask if an adjustment can be made.
