I have start my on-line college classes? But…?

I have been doing my online classes for almost 3 weeks but I just don’t think online courses are for me. I rather go to a community college instead. Is it to late? I applied for financial aid with the online college and the pell grant is for 1079.00 but I have to pay 1,698.00. Will I have to pay that amount if I don’t want to continue online? What can I do to cancel my online courses?

Let’s see here, if you are 3 weeks into your courses it’s probably too late to get out of the class unless you want to pay for it. There is usually a “drop course(s)” guideline with the college you are attending. Most will allow you to drop within one week of class starting and get a full refund then it drops to like 75% refund, 50%, 25%, 0%. All based on the length of time you are there. Most online classes last between 4-6 weeks, which means you’d probably get 25% or less of your money back, which would mean you’d have to pay the school. You normally don’t get to keep your pell grant if you do not finish the entire year.

Your best bet is to finish the semester and then transfer to another college and transfer your pell grant, if possible, so that you don’t get penalized.

As far as the costs you listed. I’m guessing your class(es) cost $2,777.00. You are getting $1079 to help you pay for the college andyou have to pay $1698 out of pocket to cover the class(es). If you drop the class, you will probably have to pay money out of pocket as pell grants usually get dropped by the goverment if you do not attend college a specific amount of time as agreed upon when you applied for the grant. If your class costs $2,777.00 and you drop the class and end up getting a 25% refund, then you may be required to pay $2083 for the time you’ve spend with the class.
