i applied for financial aid a month ago. it was pretty late, but i got a letter today and they told me that I’m eligible for grant money. so, my question is..what happens next? how do receive it and tell them? also, afer i applied for financial aid my school needed me to verify it and send them a form. but, i havent done that yet because i found out just yesterday. so, until i do that will i not get that grant money?

i’m already paying for my tuition monthly and it’s expensive. so, i really need that grant money. so i just want to know how i can actually receive it. rigth now, all i know is that I’m eligible and the amount that i was awarded. so, what do i do?

Even though you have been awarded grant money, it will not be disbursed until you complete your Verification paperwork (the Verification worksheet and your 2006 tax information (as well as your parent’s if you are a Dependent student). Go ahead and get that paper work in ASAP so that the financial aid office can process it. Your EFC may or may not be revised based on the Verification procedure, so even though you have been awarded grant money, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will get it until you get your paperwork in and they get it processed.

You should talk to a financial aid officer at your school for more information/guidance. Good luck!

**edited to answer your additional questions:if you have already turned in your Verification Worksheet and tax returns, then the school will process the information. If they need additional information based on their processing the information you have already turned in, they will notify you additionally of what they need. If they had to reprocess your information and send it back to FAFSA, then they may be waiting for your new EFC to be returned. If it’s been awhile since you turned in your Verification information you should check with them to see where they are in the process (as an example: at our school if a student turns in their Verification paperwork tomorrow, one of of our Verification people will process it that day or the next day (depending on how many students have to be processed). If the information is accurate, then Verification is complete; if it is not accurate and the information has to be reprocessed, it is sent out that evening (we transmit corrections nightly) and we will pull the corrected information down when it’s ready (usually two days later). In general, it takes us no more than one business week to complete Verification for a student). So, definitely check to see where you are in their processing. Good luck!

You just fill out the form and bring the papers needed to your schools Financial Aid office and they will process your information and when they do your money will be on its way to you.
