How do I get of putting my parents on my FAFSA?

Im 19. My dad is married to a woman who is nuts. She acts like me and my siblings who were born before she came into the picture do not exist. She does not help me or my dad financially therefore I have not been putting her on my fafsa. That was a mistake apparently, and my school caught it. They are saying since they are married she has to be on my fafsa. with both their incomes I will not get financial aid. i will have to take out 20,000 loans each yr and I have 2.5yrs to go. I dotn want to take out so many loans and the scholarships I have applied for have not fallen through yet.

You can’t FAFSA is stupid. Unless you want to get married or have a kid… which is probably a DUMB life choice they will not help you.

A loan is financial aid. Putting your step mom’s income down isn’t going to stop you from getting financial aid or save you from having to borrow at that expensive a school. Also, putting a step parent on the FAFSA isn’t always a bad thing because the number of people in the household also increases (her) and you might be able to include others depending on your situation. Do you have any half or step siblings that also live in your dads and step moms household? Does your step mom have any kids in college? If they are in college, do they also meet the below criteria? If so – you need to make sure they are also included in your household number and number in college.

The only way you can not put your dad and step mom’s income and information is by answering YES to any one of these questions. (It does not matter where you live, who claims who on what tax form, or even if they provide you support. Moving out doesn’t help, nor does notarized statements, copies of electric bills in your name, ect.)

Are you under 24?

Are you married?

Do you have kids that live with you and you support?

Do you have other dependents that live with you that you support?

Are you a veteran?

Are you an orphan?

Do you have a bachelor’s degree already?

I hope this helped and good luck!!

it incredibly is FRAUD in case you do no longer placed the two earning your next question is How Will They understand? they’re going to understand on account which you will could desire to grant the college with a duplicate of your parent’s tax documents in spite of in the event that they record Married-submitting one after the other, then it incredibly is obvious there is yet another parent in contact you will possibly then been seen as somebody who tried to Fraud the federal government for FAFSA and ought to be (one million) banned from FAFSA (2) charged criminally with motive to fraud

Does she support you in any way financially? I.e. filed you as a dependent or do you live with her etc. If so then you MUST put her on it. If not then you fight it and tell those FinAid people that she does not. Have her notarize a statement that she did not and will not financially support you. They will have to give you some alternate independency (its not called that but thats what it basically means) form to fill out. Dont give in to them, its like they think your trying to steal government money or something.

you cant get out of it until you are 24. it does not matter whether she helps you or not, if she is legally married to your dad, you must include her info. in fact, it doesnt matter if your own dad even helps you or not. unfortunately, you are correct and it is going to affect your financial aid but that is just the way the system is. you could get married or get pregnant and then you could file with only you and hubbys info

You can’t. FAFSA makes you wait until your 24 to be considered independent. I worked for a few years then went back to school because I was in the same boat as you.

Talk to a financial aid officer/counselor about your options. There are students your age who get no financial support from their parents, what to they do?

Whatever happens, even if you have to drop out and live on your own for awhile, don’t let it derail your education.

Actually, I think your school’s financial aid officer may be mistaken. If she is not your mother, she has no financial responsibility for you at all. I would think your dad’s information would have to be on there, and your mother’s information. Not your step mothers, unless your dad is widowed, then your step mother’s info would need to be on there. Here’s a link with an email and phone numbers for you to call to be sure.
