DoesFAFSA check ones’ bank for funds?

I was wondering, does FAFSA check ones’ bank for funds when they decides ones’ EFC? I want to deposit money into my account but whats holding me back is the thought the FAFSA might reduce the funds/grants they’re going to give me.From what I’ve heard, they do. If someone could clarify this for me, I would appreciate it a lot.

This is a good question. I wouldn’t put $0 in that area. If you are really worried, just keep the money out of the bank like you are doing and transfer/withdrawl every now and then to keep things looking busy.

But I guess if you believe in karma, it could come back to bite you in the a$s.

it’s not a good idea to lie on your FAFSA. Every year, the Financial Aid Office at the University I work for will select certain students’ applications for a secondary screening and request additional paperwork/information. You wouldn’t want to get caught with an inconsistency on your form/account if that happened, aside from anything else.

The FAFSA asks for tax info in order to establish your need- the best thing is to be honest and straightforward so that you don’t end up having any problem justifying yourself later on. You do have to sign a statement on the form certifying that you’ve filled it out honestly and completely, so not reporting money that you really do have would be false, and if they did find out about it, you could have problems with your loans/aid later on. Better just to be clear up front. Unless it’s a HUGE amount of money it shouldn’t make that much of a difference in your aid package anyhow.

They don’t actually check it. Put $0 in the blank because anything you put on there will be considered income.
