Government grants are not scams. All government grants (and most private-college grants) require you to submit a FAFSA. Your school then assembles your award package based on school tuition costs, course load, etc.

If you go to a government website ending in .gov, it is not a scam website. Only federal government agencies and some state governments use the ending. Usually, there is some criteria to meet or application completed to be considered for one. For example, the FAFSA form for college utilizes a percentage formula of the individual student’s income and savings along with their family’s income and savings if under 24. The websites listed below are free to utilize and find grants that you qualify for consideration. Believe me, it is not as easy as the television commercials make it seem. Good luck!

You can and should report them. Try the attorney general’s office and the BBB. But good luck trying to get your money back. What they did is probably legal although not ethical. Why not try small claims court? It’s a shot anyway. At least you can bust their chops a little and get some satisfaction. Everyone gets robbed at least once. Consider the 250 tuition. Sorry you got scammed.

You should apply for both grants and scholarships. They are both free sources of money that you can use to pay for school, and you don’t have to pay them back. You can read about their benefits here:

Here are sites that offer grants and scholarships:
