For a FAFSA loan, is there a requirement that the student maintain at least half-time enrollment (6 hours)?
Favorite Answer
All federal loans require that you maintain at least half time status to stay out of your grace period-repayment stage. Check with your university to make sure the amount of credits you plan on taking qualifies you for this status. If you were to go under half time, your loans would enter their grace period, which is six months for Stafford Loans and nine months for Perkins Loans.
Once you have used up your grace period, you will not be granted another one. This means when you return to school and reach graduation, your may enter repayment directly after.
