In college..No job…Help?

I’m having some financial issues right now. I’m 18, just started college and I have to start paying a loan back ($50 a month) and I CANNOT find a job. I don’t have reliable transportation, I don’t qualify for Federal Work-Study programs, and my work experience is next to none. I worked as a courtesy clerk(a.k.a a bagger!) at a grocery store and quit within 3 weeks, which to this day, is the STUPIDEST thing I’ve ever done =(. I get interviews but no calls back, which sucks. What are some good places to apply? Most places want experience and I have none………

I worked in a department store which is so much better than working for places like kmart, walmart, target, etc. Apply as a cashier to JCPenney, Macy*s, Bloomingdales, etc. They will train you and you get paid training. Then you get the pluses like employee discounts. But you will make more than enough to pay that $50 a month back. Night work is what they are looking for and the holiday season is coming which is very important to them, apply NOW, because they are starting to anticipate the holiday sales. I know this, I shop there and was once a seasonal employee, the pay is either minimum wage or just over, so it’s not much but it will help you. You can apply for seasonal and tell them you want to stay permanent if they have the room but that’s why you should apply now. They’re good jobs, much better than kmart or Marshall’s which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone but an enemy.

You need to make the effort to call them back. It shows real interest in wanting the job. Do not expect it to be handed to you. If you are absolutely desperate, which you are. I would look at fast food places and retail stores. Try to find something close to your house, or use public transportation. You do not want to go without paying this loan it will make it 10 times harder to get another student loan in the future and will reflect poorly on your credit report.

You could probably start somehwere as a busboy and move your way up to server…eventually. Try fast food restaurants. There are a ton of jobs out there. Just keep applying and looking. You’ll find something.

What is the name of the student loan that you have? Most student loans are defered until graduation. Did you fill out your FAFSA? Did you get any grants? Maybe you could take out another loan thats defered to pay off the one you have.
