Financial Aid?

Do you apply for it after you get into the school or along with your normal college application.

Since you are completing an application I’m going to guess you are a senior in high school. If that’s the case, you need to start looking for scholarships now. Try the school and the free scholarship search on line at http://www.finaid.org/. To apply for grants and low-interest loans you’ll want to completed the federal application at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon after January 1, 2008 as possible. Since you’ll need your completed federal 1040 tax form to answer some questions, try to get them done asap also. Check with the school’s aid office to see if they have a priority date. If so, get your application in by that date. That way you can be considered for some limited types of aid. Don’t forget that you need to apply for aid every year. So, the application you do in January is only for the 08-09 school year. You’ll need to redo the application for the 09-10 school year after Jan 1, 2009, and so on.

You must apply for financial aid before you find out if you were accepted to the college(s). I’m assuming this is your first year of college but next year you should fill the FAFSA out online between January 1 and March 2. Students who file during this time period and who show the highest need for financial aid will be given priority for funding, whereas students who file after March 2 will be awarded with remaining funds.

Apply for aid as soon as you can and once you have been accepted to the school, they will send you information regarding financial aid there.
