Does anyone know if you have to petition for financial aid your 5th year of college at a CSU?

I am a student as CSU, Chico and I just heard this. So I am wondering if we have to put in special paper work for a 5th year?

You shouldn’t be over 160 (sometimes 180) going into your 5th year, you should be right around 120. Remember, some bachelor’s degrees take 5 years on purpose so it’s not a 5 year rule, it’s a “satisfactory progress” rule.

Most places feel that you aren’t making satisfactory progress after about 160 hours and no degree. There are other rules involved though (such as percentage of classes enrolled in that were completed) so you really need to see a financial aid professional about your specific situation.

My second bachelor’s took me to 198.66 semester hours — I examined every option around those rules… there are none. Be sure to ask the professionals, they know how to help you.

the above answer is correct. It usually goes by hours, at a 4 year school you are usually cut off after 160 hours. But you might want to call the schools fin aid office to be for sure.

Financial aid it not done in years. It is generaly done by credit. If you have exceeded the maximum credits then you are no longer eligible for financial aid.
