Of course you can get a good scholarship. That is great that you are ranked 2nd in your class and it is important to keep it up. I would also suggest some extracurriculars, in addition to community service. Now would be the perfect time to find one or two clubs and get really involved. Plenty of people get scholarships for grades. I recommened looking on the financial aid website of the school you are planning to attend. Also check with counselor, as there are a lot of local scholarships.

Personally I’d drop the AP classes and focus on normal classes only because someone who gets a 3.8 with APs is considered on the same scale as someone who got a 4.0 without APs when it comes time to dish out scholarships in most schools. AP classes are great to challenge you, and if they are weighted it might help out but to be honest you really need to do VERY well in those AP classes to make a difference.

Other than that…no, sports are not necessary to get a good scholarship. I’ve seen kids who are in the top 5 of their class with really good GPAs and SATs get free rides all the time.
