Consolidating Student Loans???

I’m looking into consolidating my student loans that I have accumulated over the past 5 years. I have a mix of private as well as federal loans. Is there any company that will allow me to combine all of them into say, a 15 year loan. My private lenders are requiring me to repay within 4 years. So my payments are like $600/month! …on top of my federal loan payments.

Any advise would be great.

You can not consolidate your private loans with your federal loans, but you can do two consolidation loans…one for your private loans and one for your federal loans. There are a number of lenders that offer consolidation loans. You’ll just need to research who will offer you the best deal and who offers good service and go with them. You don’t have to use the same lender for both loans…one lender can consolidate your private loans and a different lender to consolidate your federal loans.

Private loans cannot consolidate, at least that’s what my research has indicated. Most likely whomever you borrowed your federal loans through will allow you to consolidate and you can consolidate through the gov’t as well. You can list your private loans in when you list consolidate able loans and then they will at least taken into account.
