Applying for a Pell Grant?
I want to know if the fact that I owe the IRS money is going to negatively affect the outcome of whether or not I’m approved.

No, owing the IRS money won’t effect any aspects of applying for a Pell grant. They are two different agencies.
But you will have to put some of the information from your tax return on your fafsa. And some of the fafsa applications are randomly chosen for verification, which means you may have to give the school a copy of your tax return… but they are just checking to make sure you filled out the form right, not that you owe the IRS money or anything…

They look at ALL aspects when applying for a grant, and yes taxes are a part of that.
I was in a situation that would not qualify me for a Pell grant either, but found other resources and scholar ships available.
Good Luck!
