Population

Introduction:

Azerbaijan is one of the most populated regions, it is located neighbours east of Europe and west of Asia with an area of approximately 86,000 square kilometres, The population size according to the 2002 census showed that there are over 8 million individuals in the region, this adds up to a population density of 92 individuals per square kilometres. This paper studies the population growth rate and the mortality rate in this country; we study the population growth and mortality rate among the females in this region.

Data:

The following data was used to analyse the population characteristics in the country, the data below shows the female death rate in the last five years for every 1000 of initial population:

Results:

Using the above results it is clear that the death rates among the age groups over the age of 40 has been high as compared to the death rates of those within age groups less than 40 years, this shows that the country may be experiencing a reduction in its workforce, this data on female death rate can be represented in the chart as follows:

The birth rates of the female population can be represented in a chart as follows:

From the above chart it is clear that there has been an increase in population among the age 20 to 25 than any other age group, this is a positive indication of the population because this shows an increase in the regions workforce.

Population

If we are to consider the female birth rate and the mortality rate in one chart then the following will be the results:

The above chart shows that there has been a population increase among the young females, however there has been a decline in population among those aged above 40 years, this is evident from our above chart which shows higher death rates among the old yet a very low levels of population aged between 40 years and above.

Total birth rate and death rate:

The total rate from our data shows that the death rate total amounts to 1181.5 while that of the birth rate amounts to 871, when we proceed and find the mean rates then our mean death trate is equal to 69.5 while our birth rate mean is equal to 124.4286, this clearly shows that the population birth rate is higher than the population death rate, for this reason therefore it is evident that there is population growth in our region:

Death rate

Population

124.4286

From the above chart it is evident that there is positive and yet high population growth in the country, for this reason therefore as predicted by Malthus the population in this region is growing at a Malthusian growth rate, for this reason therefore there is need to apply checks on the population, Malthus predicted that if the population was to grow at this rate then the result would be that there would occur natural ways to check population, positive check

According to Malthus a country would grow in an arithmetic progression while the population will grow in geometric progression, for this reason the economy will not be in position to offer its citizens enough for survival and there will occur natural checks such as famine, malnutrition and other miseries. For this reason therefore to avoid such disasters there is need to undertake such as family planning, late marriages and sex abstinence.

Conclusion:

From the above discussion of Azerbaijan country it is clear that the birth rate is higher than the death rate, there is need to educate and initiate policies that help check the population, the population grows in a Malthusian version and instead of realising what Malthus referred to as natural checks then there is need to initiate such checks as family planning, late marriages and

sex abstinence.
