Introduction:

In the year 2006 according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics report there were over 2,258,000 prisoners in prisons in the United States, according to this statistics this was a 2.9% increase in population from the previous year, regarding race there was 3,040 black males in prisons per 100,000 black males in the population in 2006, 1,260 Hispanic male prisoners per 100,000 Hispanic males and only 480 white males inmates per 100,000 white males in this year, this clearly shows that the black race has a larger population in prison than any other race in the united states. [1]

This paper compares the ethnic population in state and federal prisons, data was retrieved from the Bureau of Justice Statistics available at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/prisons.htm , and the data provided is for the year 2006.

highest percentage is the Hispanic and the lowest is the whites. For this reason therefore we can conclude that the black race has more prisoners compared to the other races according to this statistics.
