z vs. s in words like hybridization/ hybridisation?
Oftentimes I come upon writing in which someone writes a -s- instead of a -z- where the actual word uses a -z- (see above question). Are both ways acceptable? If not, which is more appropriate?

It depends where you are as to which spelling you use. The -z- spelling is American English while the -s- spelling is British English. It’s kind of the same thing as the -or/-our ending (color/colour) difference.

American English uses the Z while UK English uses the S.
So, both are correct depending on who is using them.

Generally, Z is American and S is British.
Both are correct, but “more appropriate” depends, of course, on your target audience.
