Would fluorescent lights be more popular if the word ‘fluorescent’ were easier to spell?
Just curious…

No way, flurorescent light output is nasty in many applications – and therefore in users eyes.
There are some very very good tri-phosphor, electronically ballasted fluorescent lamps that have amazing output.
Unfortunately, there are far too many fluorescent lights with poor color rendition, horribly nasty green spikes, flickering magnetic ballasts, etc.
Adding more to the unfortunateness of the situation, these types of lamps are cheap – and therefore what consumers are most likely to buy and have a bad experience with.

Not necessarily. No one requires you to spell it before they sell it to you!
