I don’t think so… at least I very much hope it wouldn’t hurt your chances of getting a teaching job! From experience of friends who teach, depending on the school system getting in the door can be somewhat a matter of who you know rather than solely a matter of credentials and experience. However, *hopefully* this is not a widespread problem, and your resume and experience get you hired wherever you wish! It doesn’t hurt to participate in the community, though, dependin on how large it is. My friends are teachers in 2 diff. small communities, so ‘who you know’ may be a bigger issue there than in, say, a large city.

As long as you are well-qualified, it really shouldn’t matter. There are districts that are hiring faster than others, so that will figure in to things, but your accent really won’t have much of an impact.

If you had a strong accent that was difficult for children to understand, that would be one thing; British really shouldn’t make much of a difference, though. Good luck!

No, a British accent hold a high social status. I just hope that you can understand the Texas twang.

With applicants looking more and more alike from resumes and cover letters, having a British accent may actually help you because it will differentiate you from other candidates. As long as you can still be understood, I wouldn’t see it as being a problem at all.

No, not if you are highly qualified. Anyway, people should not discriminate because you have an accent.
