why is lisp, spelt with an ‘s’??

if people with a lisp carnt pronouce the lettter ‘s’ why iz there an ‘s’ in the word of the condition ????

The word lisp probably comes from people imitating a lisp. Just about anyone saying lisp sounds like they have one.
