Why does the word ‘Lisp’ have a letter ‘S’ in it? That’s just cruel……?

.Would love to know the origins of that one! Lol!

Actually, thinking over it (perhaps a bit too seriously), this is how a conversation between a person with a lisp and another person might go.

Person with lisp: “I have a lisp.”

Causing the other person to say, “Oh, I see.”

Since the word ‘lisp’ actually causes the person to demonstrate his or her lisp, even someone who didn’t know what the word meant would be able to figure it out by context. That would change if it were a different word, e.g. “bob.”

Person with lisp: “I have a bob.”

Other person: “What’s that?”

Person with lisp: “Listen. A bob is a speech impediment, also known as sigmatism. Stereotypically, people with a bob are unable to pronounce sibilants and replace them with interdentals, though there are actually several kinds of bob. Understand?”

Other person: “Huh?”

Person with lisp: “Sigh…”

See, ‘bob’ doesn’t work as well as ‘lisp’.

May God bless you.

Yes, I thought it was amusing the first 35 times I heard it, but it’s getting a little boring now it has been posted so many times.
