A primary job of a pharmacist is making sure the drug won’t harm or kill the patient. You need chem to understand how the drug works, and you need anatomy to understand the human body the drug will be affecting and how it will affect that body.

Are you becoming a pharmacist for the money? I’m not trying to insult you, but think about this seriously. Life is too short to study something you don’t like. You are in for a lot more A&P. You need to know the structure and function of the body inside and out, so that you can understand disease processes and how drugs work on the body.

I’m becoming a nurse because I love science and I love helping people.

Look for a undergrad degree program geared towards pre-pharmacy, but it’s not required. Most Pharm D. degree programs require certain courses like biology and chemistry courses. It might vary according to school. I was going to apply for pharmacy school, but got another job instead in science. I double majored in Biology and Chemistry, got a BS in both. You don’t necessarily have to do this, but there are required courses as said before. Also, it would greatly help if you had a job as a Pharm tech working in a pharmacy in college. It would look great on your application. If you can’t get a job in a pharmacy, then try cultivating a relationship with a working pharmacist (almost a must on an application), so that person can write you a nice recommendation letter. Finally, don’t forget that GPA, keep it high because there is a lot of competition to get in to Pharm school. If you do all that, you’ll get in.

Yikes! I don’t want to trust my life to someone that’s annoyed by having to take these classes.

As a pharmacist, you need to actually understand how thousands of medications will affect the body. Bodies of many, many types of people.

If you don’t care enough to work hard in these classes to really learn this stuff, please do not risk people’s lives by becoming a pharmacist.

so you know how the body works and will be able to read prescriptions…a pharmacist actually kept a Dr in MT from killing a bunch of people (AF) by knowing what doses NOT to give people. ( my husband was one of the lucky people.) The Dr was a idiot and didn’t like the military being in ‘his’ town (he owned the hospital and pharmacy).

since you would be precribing drug, you want to know how the body works and what the drugs do for the body. i mean you don’t just want to give people drug when you don’t know what they do to the body.
