Why do we call one item “a pair of pants”?
Why don’t we call it a pant? With the same analogy why don’t we call a shirt, a pair of shirts? A shirt has two arms after all.

I don’t know how true it is but I’ve heard that it comes from pantaloons that the women used to wear under their skirts with a garter belt. Men wore trousers.

because of the fact announcing pant sounds weird and wonderful. you may desire to characteristic to that so human beings often upload the “s” or pair of pants. they’re talked approximately as a pair of pants because of the fact they might desire to legs. announcing “hi, Ma, look at my new pant!” nicely what befell to the different leg or gee that sounds somewhat weird and wonderful.
