Different languages have different ideas about whether consonants can be lined up and pronounced all in a row, or start or end words (You know how Italian mafiosi in bad movies say “he talk-a too much-a?”) In English, we dropped a lot of consonants in words that came from German, because our ancestors did not like the “kn” combination. For example, we say “night” and “knight” the same way. The “kl” sound in nuclear is another unpopular combination for English-speakers, so people try to insert a vowel between the “k” sound and the “l” sound to make it sound more like “real” English. (Saying “artic” instead of “arctic” has exactly the same origin.) This is not really an issue of modern ignorance, it follows a long-standing historic pronunciation change in English, so it “sounds right” to people.

It seems to me that some people do not have the range of tongue to enable them to anunciate certain sounds or words. They seem to be physically incapable of pronouncing the word nuclear properly, including ex President Bush 2. Nothing wrong with that. It is just fascinating.

Because people do not take the time to learn how to pronounce things correctly. Instead, because they think they can speak english, their pride disallows them to practice. Linguistics people will say it’s historical… bologne! That’s like saying someone can’t spell correctly or think logically because we all came from neanderthals! If that were the case, then they would not be able to ever learn how to say it correctly… and that is clearly not the case. Case in point: my father can not say certain words correctly unless he says it slowly first. After that, he says it perfectly. I remember a professor one time said, “I can not teach know-it-alls because they already know it all.”

Many people pronounce words as they first hear them. If they hear them pronounced incorrectly, that error will then be perpetuated. Also, alas, not enough people read, and certainly not enough people read and pay attention. Epidemic abysmal spelling is evidence of that, and mispronunciations naturally follow.

And some mispronunciations are just bad habits of people who do know better.

its probably due to geographic. some people down south put an a at the end of r..ex. baurer pronounced baurera. dime..diiiime..kimmel..kimble. up north say ca w/ no r for car.

its all about the accent just keep saying it right and know your grammar may be more superior to others 🙂

Probably the same reason some people can’t pronounce “library”. I know some people that say “lie-berry”
