the please suggest that a favor is being asked; hence could is preferable. ‘Can’ implies the ability to do, for example, “Can you operate a car?” is asking if a person of capable of driving. “Could you drive me to work?” is asking a favor of the person.

I use both, but “could” more often I think. Technically “Can you” asks the person if they are able, whereas Could you is more about willingness, and I think just a shade more polite.

Could you please is correct, but an answer “yes” to the question does not mean that the answerer “will” it just means that they “can”. If the asker is making a request of someone “Would you please” is more direct.

Well Could you please sounds more polie and formal, whereas can you please is more of an informal and friendly term.
