When someone asks, “What’s that terrible smell,” you respond, “Your upper lip.” I’ve never heard it used in any other situation, but I guess it could be. It might be even funnier if it didn’t make sense. Like “your Mom” can be used to respond to practically anthing.

Usually that is a response to “what smells”
Meaning that your upper lip smells because only you can smell it.
I’ve never heard it as a response to other jokes…
