When I pronounce my W, its sounds more like V…?

As titled above, my W sounds like a V. It gets to the point where they make fun of my accent as a German.

Can someone therougly tell me how to pronounce a W, and how to pronounce a V. Like tell me my lip movement etc…

Thanks in advance.

When you pronounce w shape your lips as if you are getting ready to kiss someone, and then blow gently. That is sort of the sound of w.

For the letter v, touch your top teeth to your bottom lip and blow gently. That is sort of the sound of v.

If you can find a speech language pathologist she or he may be able to offer better help. I hope this is of some help.

First say “vee”. You see how you push your teeth against your bottom lip and pull back into almost an uncomfortable smile. Well, to make it sound more like “wee”. Make a puckered face, but leave a little of space, so the sound can get out (like you’re gonna whistle), make an “ooh” sound, and pull back into that uncomfortable smiling position (the part where you say the long e sound).

Hope that helps, cause I had a hard time explaining.. lol

When I pronounce W my lips are kinda pursed together almost like I’m trying to whistle, and when I pronounce V my top teeth are pressed against my bottom lip.

Sure. purse your lips, tightly, then open your mouth as wide as possible suddenly and practise saying WOW. No Teeth. No tongue. Not a problem.

Don’t try to change that, embrace it. Differences are what make people interesting.
