It means that you have a preconceived notion about something. It means that you have a certain slant already about issues so you would tend to lean towards that bias. For example, if your favorite color is blue, and you were asked to choose a bedspread color that would go well with a patterned wallpaper, your first instinct would be to say blue.

“bias” has two meanings:

— a prejudice or other feeling that keeps you from being objective. Ex: “He would be a bad beauty contest judge because he has a bias against skinny people.” So if there are several people and each of them has a bias (maybe different biases for different ones of them), you can talk about the “biases” of the group.

— Also, “bias” means “diagonal”, as in “cut on the bias.” Here it’s harder to see how to use the plural.
