What would a BPT from India have to do in order to practice in the US?

A friend of mine is a BPT ( 4.5 yrs.) who’s graduated in India. She was born in India, but did kindergarten to high school in the US. She has duel citizenship. Then she went to India for college to do her BPT. Now – her fiance is from the states and they’re unsure on where they want to settle down.

My question is would her BPT count in the US? What would she have to do in order to be able to work there?

Since she has according to your information dual citizenship she is allowed to work in the US. You question is more along the lines if her degree is acknowledged in the US. For the answer to that question I suggest to contact the proper authorities in the state they intend to live in. This would be the local State Board of Physical Therapy.

Additionally I suggest to contact FCCPT. They describe themselves as :” The Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy (FCCPT) is a non-profit organization created to assist the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. jurisdiction licensing authorities by evaluating the credentials of foreign educated physical therapists (FEPTs) who wish to immigrate and/or work in the United States. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine whether FEPTs have acquired educational credentials that are equivalent to those required of physical therapists (PTs) educated in the U.S. The FCCPT has 1) adopted uniform standards for evaluating credentials; 2) developed an infrastructure of systems, processes and human resources to consistently apply these standards to all FEPT applicants; and 3) established an effective system for reporting findings to applicants, jurisdiction licensing agencies, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS, formerly INS)”
