What’s the word I’m looking for??

Okay – so the board of ed. at our school fired our principal that everyone loved and everybody was so mad about it. What were they? Not really selfish…that doesn’t fit right. I’m writing an article to the paper and I need a good word describing the board…please help!

Think about why they fired the principal and then use words that address that reason. It is difficult to make good suggestions without knowing more of the background. Possibly they were being frugal, because they hired someone who cost less, perhaps they were being elitist because they wanted someone with a Ph.D, etc, ….. see what I mean? The words you need to use depend on the situation.

I think you’re looking for “insensitive”. This means that the board were either uncaring of the school’s affection for the principal, or they didn’t think far enough ahead to realize they should have offered an explanation for their actions. It could even mean they were both uncaring and thoughtless.

It’s entirely possible that the board’s actions were justified, but by not expressing their reasons to the public, they failed to act reasonably and have caused their actions to be viewed in a negative way. Either way, they were, indeed, insensitive to the needs and desires of the community.

It is not surprising to me that this happened. It seems more and more businesses, even fast food want and hire managers who will not be cmopassionate or easily understanding and forgiving. The same holds true with schools. The word you may be looking for is selfish or biased, because any act against an innocent person is the combination of the two. I know because it has happened to me. It is why a guy like me stays single.

They were arbitrary.

Arbitrary:

1. subject to individual will or judgment without restriction; contingent solely upon one’s discretion: an arbitrary decision.

2. decided by a judge or arbiter rather than by a law or statute.

3. having unlimited power; uncontrolled or unrestricted by law; despotic; tyrannical: an arbitrary government.

4. capricious; unreasonable; unsupported: an arbitrary demand for payment.

1, they were arrogant (thinking that they knew better than the families and the students and teachers).

2, they were avaricious (trying to get a cheaper guy for the job).

3, they were a**holes (like most boards are).

Were they jealous, self-righteous, self-serving, using him as scapegoat? I don’t really know the situation, but you could call them imperialistic? Everyone else loved him and they made an executive decision without the approval of others completely disreguarding popular opinion….
