Technically the stock market has all the symptoms of being near a short-term bottom. If so, the next question will be whether it is a major bottom that holds for a number of years, an intermediate-term bottom that holds for six months, or a short-term bottom that holds for a few weeks. The first step is to determine whether a bottom has truly been reached. The “bottom” is a reference to the lowest point at which the market will go. If you have been studying the market for any length of time, though, you know that markets tend to bottom when economic conditions are at their absolute worst, and it’s hard to imagine them getting much worse than they are right now. With the government and the Federal Reserve ready and willing to take whatever measures necessary to flood the economy with money and support to avoid a major depression, the current situation could continue to improve. The credit markets are also beginning to loosen and we have support from the oil markets with oil trading near $70 a barrel. That is not something that is likely to hold for the long term, but it sure helps our current situation. Edit: To add a note to that and answer your question, short-term bottom picking kinda references buying stocks when they are low because of the market condition.

These people don’t have a clue. It comes from sh-tty end of the stick. Before toilet paper and indoor plumbing. They would use whatever they could get their hands on as toilet paper. Catalogs, newspaper and dried corn cobs. A corn cob fastened to a stick was a popular form of cleaning up. But be careful when going to the outhouse in the dark. You may grab the shi-ty end of the stick. “NOW YOU KNOW “.

it means having bad luck, or getting a bad deal on something. it comes from a game called “drawing sticks”, where a stick is broken into two uneven pieces, and each person picks a piece without looking, and whoever draws the shortest one loses (they usually have to do some unpleasant chore or task, such as walking the other persons dog, or paying for lunch, etc)

have you ever heard of drawing straws to see who gets something?? let’s say2 kids want to go to the store. only one can go. the parent cuts 2 straws different lengths, then holds the straws in their hand (hiding the length from the kids). the kids take turns drawing one straw each. the kid with the longest straw gets to go. the one with “The short end of the stick” doesn’t get to go.

It goes back in time when people drew sticks/ all but one being the same length and one short one. They were held in someones hand so no one could see the shortest one, who drew the short stick was stuck doing the job/task at hand.
