what do you think it means, or your interpretation, of the following sentence:

whan a parent says “We only want what’s best of you!”

what does that mean?

(i’m writing a paper and have to take a survey/get random people’s opinions)…

It could mean that they want you to stop messing around and focus.

It could mean that they care about you.

We parents usually say “We only want what’s best FOR you!” It means that even when we’re telling you to behave or think or respond in a certain manner that you may disagree with, we’re only doing this for your advantage. It may not seem so at the time, but it usually is truly for your good.

Are you sure you don’t mean to say “we only want what’s best FOR you?”. that’s what parent’s usually say. Anyway, it means that they have thier childs best interest in mind. even if it makes the child unhappy, they’re doing for the good of the child.

Is your question a typo? If you mean to say “what’s best FOR you, then:

It means they only want to secure the safety and well being of their child.

If you meant it the way it is typed, then I think it means they only want the child to put forth his best effort.

As a parent myself, when I utter those immortal words, I mean that I want what is in my child’s best interests. In other words, I want whatever it is I feel will benefit my child most.

This means that what theyr’e trying to tell you to do, or what they want you to believe is correct:

1.) Because it’s best for you (you won’t fail if you do it).

2.) They ‘re saying it (i.e. we know better) so it’s true.

Your parents are looking out for you, and want what they think would be the better option for you.

it means that they are doing what they THINK is best for you but that doesn’t mean that it actually is best for you.
