What is the word when someone is making themselves seem better than they are?

Dumb question, I know… I just can’t think of the word. It’s literally on the tip of my tongue… I believe it starts with an ‘e’?

When someone says they caught a 50lb bass, and really it was a 3 lb… what are they doing? (besides lying)

exaggerate, overstate, amplify, embellish, embroider, enlarge, overemphasize, overestimate, . these words mean making the results of something seem greater than they really are. this is the answer for line three

you can also use the word “phoney”, which can be a noun and an adj. as a noun, it means someone who pretends to have lots of good qualities or pretends to be someone else that they are not in order to deceive people, in the other way, to make themselves seem better than they really are.

phoney has the same meaning as a fake and an impostor. this is the answer to line one

The ‘e’ word is egocentric, meaning basically full of self to the exclusion of everything else. The other word you are looking for is exaggerating, when the truth is stretched, like this is the bestest answer you’ll ever get!
