Silkworms make the strands that are then woven by humans in to silk fabric. The silk worm is not really a worm but a caterpillar. A 14 year old girl called Hsi Ling Shi discovered the invention of the first silk reel. There are several species of Silkworm Bombyx Mori is the most common. Silk is a hardened glandular fluid.
