This was intended to be a nonsensical joke, so I find it amusing that people are seriously analyzing this! It’s like saying the sooner you die, the more time doctors will have to bring you back to life. It’s absurd to ever strive for a negative outcome just so you can struggle to reverse your misfortune. Procrastinators may argue that they work better under pressure, but this is just an excuse. Time may be on your side if you fail early, but it usually makes much more sense to use that same effort to succeed. Far more effort and time can be exerted trying to fix errors later than will likely ever be spent attempting to get it right the first time. But as a long distance runner, I can think of one exception that actually makes this statement valid. I prefer tucking in behind the leaders in a race so that I can strategically plan when to make my move. Besides, the leaders block my head wind and are under much more stress having other runners breathing down their neck. This is why the early leaders in a marathon rarely win the race, while the followers have 26 miles to coast along planning their victory!

It is a half-truth. You will have more time to catch up. You will also have more to catch up with.

you’ve fallen behind first, so naturally, when you decide to be with whatever you’ve fallen from, you’ll have more time to catch up..
